Harry Payne

Harry is a UKCC Level 4 coach and holds an MSc in Professional Practice in Sports
Coaching. He coaches many successful riders at all levels from Pony Club up to
International Grand Prix dressage, 5* eventing and International show jumping, both in the UK and Ireland. He is also a List 1 (Grand Prix) BD judge, regularly officiating at National Championships and other elite shows. He has served 15 years as a FEI Eventing judge acting as Ground Jury at many 4* and 5* three-day events, including Bramham, Blenheim, Burghley and several International championships.
Harry has ridden competitively in both dressage and eventing. He rode at 3* level eventing in the early part of his career and more recently has trained horses to compete at Grand Prix and at International level in dressage. Harry spent 25 years working as a professional rider in England, producing numerous horses to championship level in dressage. He trained both in the UK and in the Netherlands under the watchful eye of both Judy Harvey and Bert Rutten. Harry made a permanent move to Scotland in 2017, significantly reducing the number of horses he competes to focus on coaching other riders. However, he still competes regularly and successfully at all levels on his own horses.
Harry has many other roles within British Dressage. He currently sits on the BD Board as
Training Director. He leads to BD Coach Education team, delivering and assessing both
level 2 and 3 BDCC and delivering coach CPD. He is a Tutor/Assessor Judge, responsible
for educating and assessing upgrading judges. He is also an experienced BD Youth
Assessor and Coach and is actively involved in developing BD Youth Coaches. Harry is
regularly sits in working parties to shape the future of education within the sport of Dressage.
