The dark nights are coming in thick and fast now, we have managed a couple of nights at the beach after work to get some fitness work done with the horses before it gets too dark. It is brilliant for their legs in the sea, they really enjoy it and it totally refreshes them.
We had a successful day at Muirmill with all the horses, Glow was 1st and Con was 2nd in the 1.15m Members Cup Qualifier which is a qualifier for National Championships at Stoneleigh next year. Cancun was 1st and Cleo 4th in the 1.20m/Foxhunter. Really pleased that the horses are all jumping brilliant.
Weekend off and we went to HOYS. It was amazing to watch top class riders competing at top international level all weekend and I also really enjoyed watching the national classes with hope that we will have horses there next year. I was asked to model for my friend and sponsors equestrian brand, Olvossa, who had a stand at HOYS. Hayley designed the brand herself a few years ago now and it has really taken off from day one. The products are amazing, great quality and extremely fashionable.
Morris run a show on a Wednesday night which is great to try and get our regional double clears for next year and I don’t have to take a day off work because it is in the evening although with it being busy we didn’t get home til after midnight. It was all worth it though because horses jumped brilliant, I stole a shot on my sister’s horse, Junior, and he was 2nd in the 90cm, Glow had the fastest time in the 1.10m but fence in the jump off and Cleo jumped a great double clear for 2nd in the foxhunter/1.20m.
I took the horses to Howe on the Saturday, Cleo was brilliant winning the Foxhunter/1.20m with a great double clear and Glow jumped a good round too but just had 4 faults. Cancun jumped great coming 3rd in the 1.30m.
It was horsescotland Training week which I love, the team are brilliant to work with, teach us lot of new things and get us riding to the best of our ability. It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself and your horses over the 2 days with the professionals watching your every move and noticing very minor things which can make a huge difference to your performance. Unfortunately, due to the storms I was unable to take my horses on day 1 of the training but I went on foot for my review, performance and goal setting meeting which went extremely well as I achieved all my goals set for the last year and we have set some big but exciting goals for the next 12 months. I had an extra-long session with Robyn and Lauren for physio and fitness, making sure I am fit and strong enough using all the correct muscles in the right way, so I am not compensating for any weaknesses when I’m in the saddle.
Day 2…the weather has improved so I was able to take my horses for a couple of intense sessions with John and Erik who were working together. Both Cancun and Glow went great doing lots of flatwork exercises and jumping some technical lines working on straightness and position. I really enjoyed both my sessions learning lots of new things about myself and my horses. Massive thank you to the whole horsescotland team for another great 2 days training and to Fiona for organising it all.
After our horsescotland training we felt a huge difference in the horses at the Morris Cat 2 show. On Saturday, Glow won the 1.15m but a massive 8 seconds and Cleo was 2nd in the Foxhunter/1.20m getting her last double clear qualifying for Foxhunter 2nd Rounds next year. On Sunday, Glow jumped a brilliant double clear in the Foxhunter/1.20m coming 3rd. Cleo jumped good in the 1.30m with a couple of fences down and Cancun won the 1.30 with a great double clear.
Coming up we have another session of horsescotland Training with the team unfortunately will be the last one for this year. We have the BS Trophy Show and we have the Amateur Championships at Aintree which is one of our favourite venues.
