We have had a brilliant few weeks Showjumping since my last blog, my horses are on top form. We had some good results starting at the ML Show at Morris, Con was 4th in the 1.10m and an unlucky fence down in the jump off in the 1.15m. Cancun was 2nd in the RHS Classic Qualifier and 3rd in the 1.15m. The horses had a couple of weeks off so was great to get back in the ring.
Cancun and Con both really enjoyed their physiotherapy session with our sponsor Kathryn Prentice, we have some lovely stretches to do daily but they are in great condition ready for the summer ahead.
The trip to SNEC was very worthwhile as Cancun won the RHS Young Masters Qualifier and Con was 6th in the RHS Classic Qualifier. I am excited that I will be jumping in the main ring at the Royal Highland Show, it’s something I have always wanted to do.
Day 1 of horsescotland Training was amazing! Con and Cancun both went great in our session with John, working on my position and straightness over the fences. Con was jumping round courses of 1.20m and Cancun jumping round courses of 1.40m. Eric put us through our paces on the flat, working on getting Con more supple and Cancun using his core. Dressage boards can be fun, never thought I’d say that. Robyn thought I was a lot stronger and more symmetrical and I aced my fitness test with Lauren getting much better results so Bootcamp twice a week is paying off!
Day 2 of horsescotland Training was brilliant too. Con and Cancun went great in the jumping sessions with John and flatwork sessions with Eric. Robyn and Lauren were happy with the progress I am making, just need to keep up the good work. Over the 2 days I learnt so much about my horses and myself as well as lots of new training methods I can use at home to improve my horse’s flatwork and jumping. Massive thank you to Fiona for organising it all and to the full horsescotland team for all your help over the two days, I really feel a huge difference working with such an amazing team.
We were off to Ayr Agricultural Show for some more RHS Qualifiers the following weekend. Thankfully the horses weren’t too tired after horsescotland Training mid-week. Con jumped brilliantly with just an unlucky fence down and Cancun won the RHS Classic Qualifier winning a lovely big trophy. It was the first time out on grass this year but both my horses love it.
More of a quiet week with just lots of training in the arena at home, practicing some of the exercises we were given at horsescotland Training. We went to Ingliston Country Club for the last of the Royal Highland Qualifiers where Con was 4th in the 1.15m and Cancun won the RHS Classic Qualifier. He has won the qualifier 3 times now, hope he jumps just as good in the final in a few weeks’ time.
We have had a brilliant month with the horses and really pleased with how they are all coming on and we are getting some great results which makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Coming up in the next few weeks we have SNEC, Newmilns Show and I am really looking forward to our next session with the horsescotland team on 6th/7th June, so they can get us in shape for the Royal Highland Show. My lovely big horse, Glow, is now ready to go out to his first show of the year now that he is fit. I look forward to sharing my results in my next blog.
