We have had a successful couple of months with the horses after our quiet start to the year so hopefully it will continue with a busy couple of months ahead of us.
The horses jumped fantastic at Ingliston at the end of May with Con winning a 1.05m, Glow winning the 1.15m and Cancun winning both the 1.20m and 1.25m.
Bank holiday Monday we went to Muirmill for their Amateur Championships Show. Glow won the 1.10m and Cancun was 3rd both qualifying for the final. Cancun won the Amateur Championship Final and Glow was 4th.
We jumped at Morris Equestrian at their mid-week cat 2 show, Glow won the 1.10m and Cancun had the fastest time but an unlucky fence down in the jump off of the 1.20m.
Newmilns Show was fantastic, the weather held up the majority of the day and the ground was brilliant due to the recent weather we have had. Glow won the 1.10m and Cancun was 2nd in the 1.30m. It was lovely to jump out on the grass although I am not a fan of having to stud up.
We went to Blueridge on the Sunday as we haven’t been there in a long time. Glow had a great round but an unlucky fence down in the jump off and Cancun won the class with a great double clear.
My young horse has unfortunately got an abscess, so he is having a couple of weeks off to recover. This means he will miss the 4-year-old final at the Royal Highland Show now but it obviously wasn’t meant to be, we will work very hard over the next year and hopefully he will compete there as a 5-year-old.
My grey mare has not jumped in a while now due to focusing on getting the other horses ready for the Highland Show, but she is working hard at home working on her fitness, getting her stronger and building her muscles up ready for the summer ahead.
We had a great show at Morris Cat 3 show although slight touch of 4 faultitus but the horses jumped some brilliant rounds. Glow had the fastest time in the 1.10m on Saturday and in the 1.15m on Sunday but a fence down in the jump off. Cleo had 4 faults in the 1.15m on the Sunday but that is her first time out jumping in a while, so we are very happy with her. Cancun was a superstar winning the 1.20m on Saturday and having 4 faults in the jump off of the 1.30m both days.
Day 1 of HorseScotland Training…Cancun and Glow both went brilliant on the flat with Erik. I made the decision with John that due to my horses jumping so much at the moment we would only jump on day 2 of training as the horses are going brilliant so no requirement to jump both days. I had a great physio session with Robyn working with the laser on my muscles that get very tight due to my dislocation it is feeling a lot better.
I got great news from the specialist at the hospital that I don’t need an operation now after they scared me a couple of weeks back about needing quite a serious operation and worrying about it not healing on its own, but I am glad they investigated further before making the decision.
Day 2 of HorseScotland Training…Cancun jumped amazing round 1.30m track with lots of technical lines and then he worked beautifully on the flat. Cleo went amazing on the flat, really relaxed and using herself properly.
Robyn did more work on my shoulder and taped me up to help support it. I have been in a lot of pain over the last few weeks and it was amazing to have no pain again after Robyn worked her magic over the 2 days. Lauren was pleased with all my stats and the progress I am making so I’ve just to keep up the good work.
Massive thank you to Fiona for organising and the whole HorseScotland Team for all the help and support over the 2 days. I am very lucky to be a part of the squad and have access to all the best training and advice possible. Already looking forward to the next training days in September and hopefully have lots of great results to report back.
I took Glow to the mid-week show at Muirmill to jump the 1.10m Amateur Qualifier and it was well worth it because he won it with a great double clear even in the wind and rain.
I am very proud of my horses and how they have performed so far this year. The hard work is paying off because Cancun is in 1st on the Silver League and Glow is in 3rd at the moment. The league period finishes at the end of June and we are hoping to qualify for the 2nd rounds which are held at Bishop Burton in August. Cancun has also become Grade A
Our last show before the Highland was at Muirmill. Glow won the 1.10m on the Saturday and he jumped fantastic in the 1.15m section of the SWS Area Team with the team finishing in 2nd place. Cancun was 5th in the 1.30m South East Championship on Saturday and he won the 1.20m on Sunday.
I had an amazing time at the Royal Highland Show and Cancun jumped incredible all week. We had a very unlucky start to the week with a fast 4 faults in the 1.30m Speed and 4 faults in the Talent Seekers HOYS Qualifier on Thursday but finishing in 14th place. We had 12 faults in the B&C Final on Friday although he still jumped very good. Cancun pulled it out the bag on Sunday to finish 2nd in the Classic Final by 100th of a second in a crazy fast jump off. We had 4 faults in the Young Masters Final in the main ring due to rider error at the combination meaning I had to circle but Cancun didn’t touch a fence.
We have a couple of quiet weeks for the horses now after being so busy recently, but we will be doing lots of fitness work and keeping them going ready for a busy August. The Extravaganza Show is in July which is held at the Highland Show ground and we are looking forward to that.
