BETA Snippets - August 2019

LATEST FROM THE BRITISH EQUESTRIAN TRADE ASSOCIATION

Hello there! We’re now in the height of summer and bang in the middle of BETA’s year of sponsorships and events. We can hardly believe that time seems to be moving at such a pace. Before July slips away, we wanted to get in touch to keep you up to speed with our latest news and activities, and provide a little reminder about the 2020 BETA Equestrian Calendar Competition. Enjoy!

This RDA mare's no shrinking violet!

Meet Violet, a kind and cheeky RDA cob that BETA is delighted to sponsor. Her upkeep costs around £2,500 a year and we can’t think of a better way of using the money we have raised on behalf of the charity over the year. This is a fantastic, tangible way to see exactly what is done with the money.

Perhaps your company might be interested in doing something similar or would like to support BETA’s fundraising efforts? If you want to find out more, please get in touch.

Violet, eight, arrived at the RDA National Training Centre from a riding school. She is an experienced hunter, very forward-going and absolutely loves her RDA work, particularly jumping.

Helping owners to feed with confidence

We are thrilled to welcome the 14th product to the BETA feed assurance scheme set up to help owners identify feeds suitable for horses and ponies prone to equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS).

Baileys Horse Feeds’ No 14 Lo-Cal Balancer has passed the scheme’s stringent, three-stage application process and is now entitled to feature the distinctive feed approval mark – a red BETA logo with the wording “suitable for equines prone to gastric ulcers as part of a balanced diet” – on the product’s packaging.

This BETA feed assurance scheme also includes Allen & Page’s Soothe & Gain, Baileys Horse Feeds' Ease & Excel and No 19 Performance Balancer, British Horse Feeds’ Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet, Dengie Horse Feeds' Healthy Tummy, Performance Fibre and Alfa-A Oil, Henry Bell’s EquiGlo 10 Minute Beet, Mars Horsecare's Winergy Equilibrium Growth, Saracen’s Re-Leve and Competition-Fit Balancer, and Spillers’ Alfalfa Pro.

The search is on for worthy winners

Two BETA Business Awards that rely on consumer input are now open for nominations. The SEIB Retailer of the Year, with categories for bricks-and-mortar and online stores, invites customers to put their favourite retailer forward for the award.

Everyone who nominates a shortlisted retailer will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a £50 shopping voucher to spend with their local BETA retailer. Why not give yourself a greater chance of winning by making it as easy as possible for your customers and displaying nomination forms in-store? Get in touch to request some as soon as possible. The deadline for nominations is 18 November.

Meanwhile, the Nutritional Helpline of the Year award is being sponsored by STUBBS England for a second year. This prestigious industry accolade rewards exceptional service and advice offered by feed company nutrition teams to retailers and consumers. Nominations must be made online by 18 November.

Lucky Lucy wins BETA hamper

Congratulations to Lucy Porter, winner of the BETA luxury hamper prize in our competition at Bramham International Horse Trials. Lucky Lucy, from Leeds, is a student veterinary nurse and owner of Duncan, a 15-year-old, 14.2hh Connemara. She says he is a typical cheeky pony full of personality and the pair love hacking, schooling, jumping and spending time together.

Lucy goes to Bramham every year and is delighted to have won the hamper, which is full of fabulous products kindly donated by BETA companies Bates Saddles, Champion, Dengie Horse Feeds, EquiGlo Horse Feeds, Equilibrium Products, Feedmark, Hilton Herbs, Honeychop, HRP Equestrian, Parallax Equestrian, Protexin and Silvermoor.

Blair-bound for a second year

We’re really looking forward to our second outing to Blair Castle International Horse Trials, where we will be supporting the Scottish Grassroots Eventing Festival, from 22 to 25 August. The BETA stand can be found next to the Tilt Arena, so, if you’re at the event, please don’t forget to drop by and see us – it would be lovely to see you.

Blair offers us a great opportunity to flag up the work of the trade association and our members, highlight initiatives such as the BETA feed assurance schemes and engage with the many enthusiastic horse owners and riders who visit.

We're sure that the BETA luxury equestrian hamper prize will prove as popular as ever and our offer of free riding hat and body protector safety checks will be of great interest to many.
